Can you please make gif images display with animation? Currently, they show as still images.

It's in the to-do for version 2.x, but will it be implemented or not - we'll see. Most likely not in the versy first release of the 2.x version.

The old version played GIF's no problem however like you've already said, gif animation will not make it into version 2 (which I just downloaded, installed). Low and behold, it does not play GIFs. I'm rolling back to the old version until this feature is added but my question is seeing as this thread is 8 months old, I was hoping to check back in to see if you still intend to add the gif functionality and if so do you have any idea when?

Yes, the intention is still there.
