When a new version of template is downloaded, do the existing projects that are based on the old template get updated as well? Or is there some steps that I need to follow to update the projects with the new template version?

Currently nothing is done automatically to existing projects. Sorry. The only way to apply new settings from new version of the template is to create a new project. I guess I'll add it to the to-do list.
