General protection fault (Win10)

Post by hans » 17 Jul 2018, 16:57

Hi all!

First of all: Great work! Always loved the way ESS handled my pictures as a slideshow especially with two different pictures on two monitors. Killer feature!

Since I was forced to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 ESS ist not working anymore. All I get is an error message even when trying to config it via Windows' own screen saver settings dialog:
General protection fault. Please re-install the program.

I did reinstall it. Even newer versions. But even my last shot - version 1.11 - does not work.

Maybe someone has an idea? Would be very much appreciated!

This is strange. Endless Slideshow Screensaver works on all our Win 10 test machines perfectly. Looks like something in your Windows is preventing it from work. Please try turning off your anti-virus and/or firewall. But first - re-download the installation package from this address:

Hi Maxim
For some years now I use with pleasure the pro version.
Since yesterday I also get the General protection fault (Win10).
I didn't change anything on my computer.
Stopping Malwarebytes didn't help, as well as new installation.
Can you help me?
Thanks,
Peter

The only thing I can suggest - turn off your anti-virus as well as Windows Defender. Uninstall the screensaver, then re-download and re-install without turning on anti-virus programs.

Since the screensaver was not changed yesterday either - it's definitely not the screensaver's fault. Must be some silent Windows Update... Or Malwarebytes updated yesterday and the new build won't let the screensaver run properly. Something in your Windows is definitely interferes with the screensaver. All out test PCs with Windows 10 are running the screensaver just fine.
