transition not clearing edge of pic

Setup ESS 1.9 and noticed 1-3 pixel at edge of screen (left or top depending on transition type) are not erased when really large pic displayed that filled to edge of screen. Goes like this:

step 1 ESS displays large image shrunk to fit screen 1280 x 1024. Orig pic size 3264 x 2448 Pixels, 7.99 MPixels, (4:3) scaled down
step 2 do transition
step 3 load 2 pics scaled to fit on screen
step 4 I can still see 3 pixel strip on far left of step 1 pic

ESS is set to default 10 pixel border and show up to 2 images per monitor. Same result if I drop it to 1 per monitor. Not specific to a transition type.
The attached is a screen capture at step 4 showing artifact see arrows
