import/export or transfer projects

Post by PP100 » 28 Apr 2015, 12:53

I am installing a new SSD and reinstalling OS , programs etc and and want to transfer all my EPF projects/ settings to the new install.
Is there an export/import option (if not this may be useful) or which files do I need to manually copy over to preserve my projects
so I can pick up where I left off and not have to download all the previous downloaded pictures again ( I had tens of thousands) to get up to current status with all projects? The downloaded pictures were already stored on an external drive or copied over.
Thanks.

Well, this is rather easy. You just have to copy the content of the EPF "Data folder". You can find the actual location of the Data folder in the program settings, the "Advanced" section.

So, you install EPF on the new OS, find out where the new "Data folder" is and copy everything from the old location to new one. By the way, you can change the location of "Data folder" to the one you prefer. Just do it before you copy everything...

I've copied the old data folder over to the new install on the new disk.

C:\ProgramData\Extreme Picture Finder\Data

But when I open the program, none of the projects etc are there?

I fixed it myself, You needed to mention very importantly that you also have to copy and move the projects folder which is NOT contained in the data folder but is a separate folder. Just as well I hadn't deleted or formatted the old disk yet or I would have lost all my projects.

I don't get it. The "Projects" folder is actually a sub-folder inside the "Data folder"... The program won't work otherwise. So simply copying entire content of the "Data folder", including all sub-folders should have done the trick.

Well in both of my installations, the old disk and the new disk, the projects folder is separate and OUTSIDE of the data data folder and NOT a sub folder ofthe data folder , which by itself was not enough to transfer any of the project lists. see screenshot of the folder structure which is the same for both installs. There is no sub folder in the data folder of any kind just a lot of .dat and .cookies files

Your screenshot shows the content of the EPF's "Data folder". It has 3 sub-folders: "Data", "Projects" and "Searches". So there is a "Data" sub-folder in EPF "Data folder"... And you have to copy the content of "C:\Program Data\Extreme Picture Finder", not only the content of "C:\Program Data\Extreme Picture Finder\Data"
